All Eyes on the Ball
Posted on 06-30-2010I wouldn't describe myself as a die-hard soccer fan – I'm more of a racing and hockey guy – but I have to admit that the U.S. team's success in South Africa has caught my attention.
The pride I feel brings to mind all of you around the globe who are captivated by the World Cup – and have so much hope invested in your teams.
On opening day, RE/MAX agents in Argentina took to the streets wearing team jerseys with the RE/MAX logo on them and handed out brochures listing the full schedule of matches. RE/MAX Austria Managing Director Anton Nenning sent an e-mail to one of the folks here at RE/MAX World Headquarters, confirming that the competition is the main topic at every meeting. Such intense focus on the games reminds me of what we all value about RE/MAX. We live and work in nearly 80 different countries – more than any other real estate network. In the host country, South Africa, we have 1,500 Associates and 150 offices. Wherever we are, we know that our colleagues on the other side of the globe are applying the same intensity in their businesses – and continuing to make our global brand the most respected around the world. I saw a quote from U.S. soccer star Landon Donovan that really hit home. He was commenting on balancing focus on the game against watching the scoreboard. He said, "You have to play, but you also have to be aware of what the result is." That's what you're doing every day – you're keeping your eye on the ball in your market. But what makes RE/MAX strong is that each of us sees the big picture, and that pushes us to make sure RE/MAX continues to be known for its outstanding agents and their outstanding results. The World Cup unites people around the world in a common interest. And RE/MAX Associates are among those cheering the loudest, because you understand intense competition and the passion it takes to be the leaders. You know what's at stake on the world stage and in your own community. Enjoy the competition – you're in good company.
